I have been trying to stay offline these days in attempt to make full use of Ramadhan. At this moment, I could not stop myself from sharing my fascination and addiction with dates. This happens to be my first date eating Ramadhan. In the previous years, I have always passed on the offer to break fast with a date opting in for a chocolate or piece of fruit. The reason being.. I didn’t like the look of them! And deep down I felt the guilt of not consuming something so dearly attached to the blessed month. This year, as part of my Ramadhan preparation list I had put down, “Tia must eat dates in Ramadhan”. And guess what? they are delicious. I am pinching myself for missing out on such a lovely fruit for all these years.
Now, I am making up for all those years without dates. I have them for iftar, carry them around with me, for suhr, in cereal, I even made a dates milkshake which tasted like chocolate and the only way to describe the syrup I can find is Subhan’Allah.
Dates also hold remedy to many diseases including Witchcraft!

Thank God you finally saw the light. Have you tried date flavored fruit juices? It’s healthier than sugar and other sweetners and gives it a unique taste. 😀
I love dates regardless. And would you know there are so many varieties of dates out there. My favorites are red dates from China. They have these stoneless type that are shredded all around… don’t know how they do that. I can eat a whole pack of those in three mouthfulls. And thats when I’m not being a glutton. I also like dry dates. You know the really dry type that can give someone a lump on the head if you stone them with it, hehe… :p
In our house ramadan is synonymous to dates. It’s become a family tradition over the years so much so that fasting isn’t complete without it. When my mum dishes out our fruits during iftar she’d put four or five dates in each plate. She had to ration it cause if she left it out there with all the dates monsters on the prowl it’ll be gone in two days.
I luv dates too. In south of Iran they produce very good dates. Usually it is part of Ramadan, Iranians like to break fasting by date..

they are lovely arent they? esp the big juicy ones at the mosque they take the seeds out and put nuts in them, yum.
oh and word of advice, should alwys open them up inspect them properly before eating.
I like date slices, theyre like thick slices of dates-jam and cake.
Also the seedless nut-filled dates-in-a-box are awesome!
Wb. just out of curiousity I was wondering if someone offered you date for iftar and you didn’t take it. Is that wrong? reason being because in the mosque everyone offers dates and there is only so much you can eat. Can you say no?
hmm my favourite dates are Ajwa dates and the big juicy ones.
Dates are nice. The plain, normal ones. Not the ones with choc in them, or cream. But sometimes when you discover growing wildlife in them – it puts you off
I found one ridden with a whole bugs habitat a few weeks ago, and havent had a date since.

I used to be the same ! I used to hate dates , just also the look of them and sometimes the taste , for some reason they just started growing on me , and now i love them , you can make so many delicious sweets from them …but chocolate still stays the best tia ! 😛
